1)
Thanks stepan, been waiting for something like this.
But: installed it on MT 2.6.4 and got:
Can’t locate object method “load” via package “MT::Template” (perhaps you forgot to load “MT::Template”?) at /htdocs/www/mt-mail-entry.cgi line 69.
My two (text/html) templates are in Misc templates BTW
Thanks

Thanks for creating this!
When I try to build the mail_entry_html template, I get this error:
“Build error in template ‘mail_entry_html’: Error in tag: You used an ‘MTEntryTitle’ tag outside of the context of an entry; perhaps you mistakenly placed it outside of an ‘MTEntries’ container? “
I am using the mail_entry_html template you provide.
Any ideas of what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks!

This is exactly what I’m looking for. However, I got the same error as Karrie - fixed this by adding tag before and after everything.
Also, should the output file be .html?
I tested this out and I still get the same plain text notifications.

4)
Just cannot get this working. Finally got it without errors, but it sends an email only consisting of
— Powered by Movable Type Version 2.661 http://www.movabletype.org/
The instructions are not very clear, are these index-templates or archive-templates or modules?
I use the default names for the default templates but what should I call the output files?
How does it decide to send text or email?
Do not find entries in my activity log.
-
5)
Since the templates are loaded by name, they could be Index, Archive or Module templates. Personally, I use module templates. If you use an Index template, the output file path is ignored.
The CGI checks to see if the specified (or default) text mail template exists and sends text email if it does. The CGI also checks whether the specified (or default) HTML mail template exists and sends HTML email if it does. If both templates exist, a message containing both text and HTML is sent.
If all you get the is the “Powered by MovableType” line, you’re probably not specifying the right templates or the template(s) you specified generate an empty message.

I’ve been using this awhile now - works great.
Having just read of the ‘spam’ issues with the default MT send-entry, I’m wondering how this script is affected.

7)
Just downloaded this plugin an hour ago and I it is working. I have customized the mail form, and everything is working great.

8)
Hi,
this plugin (mt-send-enty.cgi) allows to send a mail to several recipients?
Regards,
-
9)
Yes, you can provide a comma-separated list of recipients.

10)
Hi, I have a question. In what directory do I place the Mail Template? Also, what extension do I give this Mail Template? Please let me know. Thanks -chris
-
11)
There is no “directory” to put the templates into. They are just regular MT templates that you add and edit in the Blog’s Templates section. See comment 5 above.

Hi again, I created the “mail_entry_form” “mail_entry_html” and the “mail_entry_text” forms in movable type 3.0. And the script is not finding them. What can I do now?
-
14)
WOO!! I got it to work! I love your plugin!! Thanks so much, it can be viewed at http://www.chicagosnapshot.com

I keep on getting the same error as karrie (comment #2). I have added the templates as ‘index templates’ for my MT 2.661 inatall.
Any ideas on how to get around these errors?
Thanks,

Hi
This is a great extention. Everything works perfectly, it was an easy configure..thanks for that. I do have a problem though, I tested it on myself and didn’t recieve an email. So I thought it would be with my server, but it’s not. I am able to receive comments, notifications..etc..
My log file says :
“Mail Entry #80 from to ” So MT thinks it’s working….. any ideas?
Thanks :)

I just upgraded to MT 3.1 and now I get this error when I try to email an entry:
Can’t call method “param” on an undefined value at mt-mail-entry.cgi line 54.
-
18)
This has broken for me also. Is there any plan on modifying the plugin to fix whatever’s going wrong?
-
19)
I also get the error after upgrading to 3.1
The error is:
Can’t call method “param” on an undefined value at mt-mail-entry.cgi line 54

20)
I have been trying to get this to work in MT 3.1 with no success at all. SendEntry plugin also doesn’t work with 3.1. Has anybody found anything that does work?

21)
Hi, this pugin is meant for sending URL’s to users, right?
Does anybody know how to send an e-mail to MovableType as an entry and that publishes it on to the web. For example, Wordpress has successfully done that. Any ideas?
-
22)
I’m also getting the “param” error. I’d love to be able to use this.
-
23)
I installed MT-Mail-Entry 2.0 for use in MT 3.15 as directed. I changed the code in the .cgi file, per Joe’s hack to correct for the param error

My problem is that I can send emails to my domain at speth.tv but when trying to send to someone at yahoo.com or aol.com, I get the following error:
Failed to send email: Error sending mail: RCPT TO: error (553 sorry, that domain isn’t allowed to be relayed thru the MTA (#5.7.1))
Have you seen this before and if so, can you help me out?
Thanks for the mods…
-
24)
I suspect that (for anti-spam reasons) your host only allows email to come from your domain (i.e. speth.tv), so if your visitor enters their email address, your mailserver rejects it. You may need to hardcode the “From:” email address to something in your domain. You can use a hidden input tag for that.
-
25)
I’ve tried this out for the first time but it gives me ‘Internal Server Error’ which I don’t understand.
Normally I’d assume this would be the script permission issue but I did set it to 755. I put it under cgi-bin intact. Then I followed exact same instructions but it just doesn’t work for me.
Any guidance would be appreciated. It’s just so frustrating. Thanks

I have been struggling with this. Can anyone tell how to do away with the error -
Build error in template ‘mail_entry_html’: Error in tag: You used an ‘MTEntryTitle’ tag outside of the context of an entry; perhaps you mistakenly placed it outside of an ‘MTEntries’ container?
I am trying it for quite some time..

Stepan,
Could you please address the issue in Comment #2. It would help users to appreciate your coding instead of becoming frustrated and abandoning it.
Thanks,
Mel

1) Sometimes my html mail output has exclamation marks salted randomly through the text—in the middle of words and between words. Viewing the source in MS Outlook, it appears that the exclamation marks are followed by a long line of non-breaking spaces. Has anyone encountered this and identified the source?
2) Following the instructions here, I have text and html templates, but it appears only html is sent out with no plain text appended. Has anyone gotten this to work or created a mail form with a selector for text or html output?

Works great! Plugged it in and ran! Not sure why people are having problems with it…

To make this plug-in work, here are more detailed instructions for MT 3.2.
1. If you get this error: “?Build error in template ?mail_entry_html?: Error in tag: You used an ?MTEntryTitle? tag outside of the context of an entry; perhaps you mistakenly placed it outside of an ?MTEntries? container”
This is because you did not set it up as a module template. Do NOT use index or archive templates to implement your templates for this script.
2. Don’t bother using the default mail form listed at http://www.nonplus.net/software/mt/MT-Mail-Entry.htm. Instead, use the default form that is INSIDE mt-mail-entry.cgi. Copy everything after:
sub _default_template_form {
return . Instead, use the default form that is INSIDE mt-mail-entry.cgi. Copy everything after:
sub _default_template_form {
return
and before:
FORM
}
in mt-mail-entry.cgi. Create a module template called “mail_entry_form” and paste that default form into there. You will have to modify this code with the particular tags that correspond to your site’s CSS if you want this to look anything like your site.

how change the sourse of this script to send the e-mail to more friends by ,? example: Recipient email address : e-mail@yahoo.com,e-mail2@gmail.com,. please help me!
-
34)
I have set this up, but the entries are not being emailed, even though Movable Type is saying they are.
I have tested it many times.
I was also having this problem with the simple email-a-friend code.
Any suggestions? thanks!

I liked the sound of this code so I downloaded it and have spent the last two days trying to figure out the templates for MT 3.2. It’s finally working, and looking just like the blog. You can see it in action on Loving You. If anyone is interested in the template set, it’s available here. My thanks to Stepan for going to all this trouble. Works great after you remove the breaks in the javascript. The script should read:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
<!--
function OpenEmail (c) {
window.open(c, 'email', 'width=480,height=480,scrollbars=yes,status=yes');
}
//-->
</script>

36)
Excellent script! But users do yourselves a favor: any script copied and pasted from this page needs to have all the extra line break tags taken off the end of each line. Don’t know how those got there, but they will wreak havoc on your code. Thanks, Stepan!!!

Thanks for this code, it works great. However you said you can supply a comma seperated list of recipients. I can’t seem to get this to work. Can you provide and example of how this list should look? Spaces, no-spaces, etc.?
