Akismet 1.01

According to the Akismet.com, “Automattic Kismet (Akismet for short) is a collaborative effort to make comment and trackback spam a non-issue and restore innocence to blogging, so you never have to worry about spam again.” In other words, Akismet is a cool collaborative comment spam filter. Akismet was developed for WordPress, but the service is available to anyone interested — including MovableType users. In order to use the Akismet service, you must sign up for a free account on WordPress.com and retrieve your WordPress.com API Key.

Installation

Download the Akismet plugin and install the contents of the plugin folder into your MovableType plugin folder.

Configuration

Sign up for a free account on WordPress.com
Retrieve your WordPress.com API Key
Log into MovableType, go to the Plugins settings and click on “Show Settings…” for the “Akismet Spam Filter”
Enter the WordPress.com API key
Change any configurations as needed and save

The archive seems to be empty (it’s 156 bytes only).

the download doesn’t works, ‘coz when i open the zip there’s only a empty folded
I use Winrar to unzipit

This is great news. Thanks for providing the plugin. One question though — what kind of load does it put on a server? I’ve had to completely turn off comments and trackbacks on my blogs (and delete mt-comment and mt-tb) b/c of the load spam fighting was putting on my server. Hopefully calling out to Akismet is very low overhead.

I’m seeing “stuff” in my log files from these Akismet plugins (different for yours and the official ones) since upgrading to MovableType 3.31. Any ideas?

The Akismet plugin fails when processing trackbacks. In the trackback details and the activity log I found the following:

Akismet Error: unknown column: text for class MT::TBPing at lib/MT/Object.pm line 283

Anybody has a solution?

I think Jeroen is referring to Akismet’s “official” version of the plugin, not Stepan’s. The devs there have pretty much thrown up their hands….

Dumb question…. How do I use the Akismet-MT plugin that something is spam or ham? Or is that only available for native WordPressers?

Is anyone else seeing massive amounts of Trackback spam being marked as ham? This is happening to me, and they are getting published, where SpamLookup wouild have trapped and junked them. 24 Entries this morning from an overnight barrage.

Hi Stephan, does your plugin report spam activity back to Akismet, i.e. when someone marks a comment as spam, does it get submitted back to Akismet to learn to block that comment in the future? If not, can you add that feature? Thanks, Toni.
