Junior: March 2006 Archives
Many of Magda conversations consist of very repetitious statements, often pointing out the same thing over and over. It usually goes something like this:
Magda: Mama?Jfer: Yes baby?
Magda: Bah!
Jfer: You've already finished your bar.
Magda: Mama?
Jfer: Yes baby?
Magda: Bah!
Jfer: The bar is all gone, we'll eat when we get home.
Magda: Mama?
Jfer: Yes Magda?
Magda: Bah!
Just tonight, I spent good five minutes with the following:
Magda: Tata?Me: Yes?
Magda: Tata?
My: Yes dear, what do you want?
Magda: Tata?
Magda: Tata?
Me: Yes, please?
Magda: Tata?
But sometimes things are more interesting. Last night, Madga was very chatty and tried some more complicated words. For one, she's started forming "It's a" sentences. So instead of pointing at Rose's collar and saying "Kah", she'll say "It's a Kah" or may point to Jennifer and say "It's a mama". With more complicated words, the "It's a" part comes out fast, and then she carefully tries to pronounce the challenging word.
Last night Jennifer offered her a piece of a tomato, and Magda, very carefully and with gusto pronouced her first three-sylable word: "to-pah-to". We couldn't get her to say it any other way, but she really, really, enjoyed saying "It's a to-pah-to".
Magda was like the Energizer Bunny after dinner tonight. Running around the house in her not-so-sure gait. Swaying from side to side in front of our pendulum clock. And just generally talking up a storm.
I'm glad to see that she's moving on to more interesting vocabulary. Tonight she'd run around yelling "baggah", "baggah", "baggah", while holding her index finger up in the air -- then stop to stick it up her nose -- and then continue announcing her boogers (which, by the were, there were none).
She has formed a strong attachment to the doll that she got from the Hsus. She often talks about "baby" (and has switched from signing to the spoken word) and likes to feed her a toy bottle or set her in her stroller or on the sofa. As with many of Magda's toys, Rose has had her way with "baby" and chewed off a few fingers on one of the hands. Occasionally Magda will bring her doll to you, point out the mangled hand and starts babbling all sad and concerned. Of course, just as often she tries to feed "baby" to Rose.
Some of the new words that she's started using include: "collar", "paw", "bowl", "bone" (yes, there is a pattern), "Zoe", "shoe", "car", and "bus" and "yes". I'm still waiting for her to say something in Czech, although Jfer claims that she has heard her say "uši" (ears) when pointing out Rose's body parts.
