I'll backdate the entries about our vacation, but here's the overview of stuff we've done (since this blog tends to serve as my long-term memory).

Tue, Jul 19/20
Trip from Austin (10AM) via Chicago and London to Prague (Noon). Everything went surprisingly smooth and Magda was great.
Wed, Jul 20
Arrival in Prague. Visit from cousins Jana, Hanka and Alena, visit to grocery shop for comfort foods. Pleasant dinner with the cousins and Martina, Urs and Dominik.
Thu, Jul 21
First trip into Prague, cold and dreary. Some shopping. Visit at Hanka's and a way-too-late dinner in town.
Fri, Jul 22
Another trip to Prague with more shopping. Visit to the Museum of Czech Comunism, some of which brought back old memories (like the class room). Dinner at yummy pizza place and a reasonable bed time.
Sat, Jul 23
Trip to Staňkov -- through detour-from-hell around Jičín. Meeting up with family. Pig roast and celebration of my parents' 60th birthdays with lots of family, friends and locals.
Sun, Jul 24
Hike to Pecka for a family lunch at nice restaurant. Hike to St. Mary Magdalene church for Mass (the feast day od St. MM -- and thus Magda's name's day -- had been on Friday). Relaxing evening as most of visitors leave.
Mon, Jul 25
Very successful mushroom hunting in the morning with Mom and Dad. Bike trip in the afternoon (it's only going to be a few miles -- yeah, right!)
Tue, Jul 26
Trip to the Giant Mountains. Hike to the spring of the Elbe and down to Špindlerův Mlýn and, unplanned, back up to Horní Mísečky (look kids, the chairlift is not running today...)
Wed, Jul 27
Trip to Jitrava and visit with the Krajl clan. Climb up the White Rocks. Saussage and "snake bread" over camp fire.
Thu, Jul 28
Go swimming in Hrádek nad Nisou and then head back to Staňkov.
Fri, Jul 29
Some more Mushrrom hunting and another trip to the pool.
Sat, Jul 30
Day trip to Prachovské skály and Jičín -- just the three of us.
Sun, Jul 31
Trip back to Prague. Afternoon downtown walk (and shopping) with parents.
Mon, Aug 1
Trip back to the USA.

In retrospect, we were pretty busy most of the time. But it was out in the country and with family, so we still managed to relax.

Enjoyed the links - the photos of Giant Mountain are lovely. No wonder your mother and your aunt hiked so jauntily in Arkansas! How was Magda transported on the hikes? And definition of "snake bread" please.

"Snake Bread" was my translation of "Schlangenbrot", which is a popular staple of Boy Scout and Summer Camp open-fire cookouts in Switzerland. It's basically bread dough (flour, salt, yeast and water) wrapped around a stick and baked over a camp fire. You end up with something that's burned on the outside, raw dough on the inside and with a bread-like layer in between. The name comes from the shape of the bread. Kids LOVE it.
