There are all sorts of useful voting related sites out there.

  • MyPollingPlace.com lets you find your polling place based on a street address and ZIP code
  • TimeToVote.net has state-by-state information about laws giving employees the right to take time off from work to vote
  • VerifiedVoting.org has county-by-county (e.g. Travis) information on which voting system they use and instructions on how to use the electronic voting devices employed

We have voted! Turned out that you couldn't vote in Kansas before 10/13 so our absentee ballot was sent to Breunigweiler, Germany via military mail. We completed our ballots and Kathleen took them with her and mailed them when she arrived home. We met an older lady in Nimes, France that was from Florida and she was going to be sure she was back home in Florida in time to vote for Kerry!! We had a great conversation with her.

I hope your votes count. Isn't there some rule that absentee ballots from abroad may not be mailed from within the US?

What a revolting thought but the envelopes said they could be mailed free anyplace in US - possibly because it was military mail. Unfortunately, our votes won't make a significant difference in hide-bound Republican Kansas, but one can always hope.
