A Pound of Sugar
We decorated our gingerbread cookies last night. Jfer invited Christina and Anna from work and after we dispatched a couple of pizzas I mixed up the glaze and we went a-decorating. I was surprised how quickly we got the job done. Four people is about right--you get plenty of cookies to play with but not so many that it becomes a chore.
It turned out that my guestimate on the number of cookies was woefully inadequate (not unlike my project estimates at work...) Instead of 150 cookies I eventually counted 270 (give or take a ten) and this didn't include those that were "tested" for quality assurance purposes.
I discovered that while I doubled the dough recipe, I had to tripple the glaze recipe (a pound of powdered sugar...) I also learned that you really want to take spoons out of a blender before turning it on...

Ouch--I hope you're not talking about taking spoons out of your Kitchen-Aid--is it okay?
Remind me to always take your estimates with plenty of salt, regardless of how confident you sound!
My Kitchen-Aid is just fine. I had left a spoon in my Osterizer blender and didn't notice it when I refilled it with powdered sugar for the next batch of icing. When I hit the button the spoon in the blender made a huge racket and the sugar exploded all over me. I think the blender is OK, though.
Ok...What's gives with all the cookies?? This is your second blog about gingerbread cookies, doubling or should I say tripling the batch from last year. I hope all those cookies weren't made for your consuption only. Are you planning on mailing any for Christmas gifts?
I (we) usually make several different kinds of Christmas cookies. This year we'll only make one or two kinds. And unlike most of my other recipes, the gingerbreads keep well for a really long time (I may still have some in January).
We'll take some of them with us to Switzerland, but most of them go to work and Christmas parties we'll be attending in the next couple of weeks.
I laughed visualizing you with powdered sugar all over your body! We've always teased John about the Pillsbury Dough Boy, but the next time I see you, I may just have to give you a fingerpoke and a giggle in your tummy!
Can I change that to read: "...a giggle and a fingerpoke in your tummy?" I know think I want to giggle into your tummy.
