Happy 2003!

We greeted the new year at a very pleasant party hosted by Kat and Steve. Staying way past my bed time, we didn't get home until almost 3 AM. The only downside was that I never got around to buying some fireworks - ah well, gotta wait until July 4, I guess.

We're hosting our almost annual New Year's Day party today and I decided to contribute by making bread - taking advantage of the HearthKit I got from Jennifer. I'm doing two quite different recipes (both for baguettes, but I may shape them differently) and so far it's not looking too great. I think I may have overworked the dough in the first recipe - the loaves look a bit flat. The second recipe's dough looks better, but seems a little wet. So I may end up with a bunch of chewy flat breads and an emergency trip to the grocery store.
